Human Grade Vitamin C

Dr. Wendell Belfield, DVM, the veterinarian that has spent years researching vitamin C (in the sodium ascorbate form) and hip dysplasia along with other diseases, believes that many of our pet's illnesses come from a vitamin C deficiency. Some of these illnesses include arthritis, hip dysplasia, lameness, ruptured discs, spinal demyelination viral diseases and skin problems. Others include asthma, cancer digestive problems, bladder/kidney stones and urninary tract infections.

The primary function of vitamin C is collagen production which binds together connective tissue, muscles, tendons, ligaments, cartilage, blood vessels, skin and bones.Vitamin C is a detoxifier, a powerful antioxidant and is great for the immune system. It fights viruses and bacteria. It stimulates the production of interferon. It is needed for the formation of red blood cells and adrenaline which is needed for stress. Stress and toxins are some of the main reasons we, and our pets, need extra vitamin C. Both deplete the body of vitamin C as do antibiotics, cortisone, sulfa drugs, cigarette smoke, baking soda, fever and excessive drinking of water.

For general mainteneance, give vitamin C once or twice daily. When dealing with specific conditions that need large doses of vitamin C, it is best to give smaller doses more frequently. Vitamin C that is not chelated or bonded to a protein goes through the body and is destroyed or utilized in 3-4 hours.

The type of vitamin C used in Dr. Belfield's studies was sodiumn ascorbate and it is the once recommended for pets. (We believe in using the original forms and products that were used in studies, not alternate forms or "knock-offs"). Sodium ascorbate is less acidic and has almost no taste. The more acidic the form of vitamin C (low pH), the more likely you'll get gastric upsets and diarrhea, especially when giving large, therapeutic doses.

Meta-C is a unique form of vitamin C that is absorded faster than regular vitamin C and maintains higher serum levels for longer periods of time with no intestinal discomfort. Food matrix formed Meta-C is fully reacted with pytoplankton to have all the properties found in concentrated whole foods including proteins, lipids, glycoproteins, lipoproteins, nucleoproteins (RNA/DNA), complex carbohydrates, phytopigments, flavonoids, fatty acids, enzymes, coenzymes, trace elements and fiber. This unique process conjugates vitamin C with natural biologically active metabolites in a buffered form as an ascorbate of calcium. We recommend this form of C as the very best for any animal or human. It works exceptionally well in the formation of collagen and any of the problems associated with insufficient absorption or lack of vitamin C.
